Countess Mircalla Karnstein, also known as Carmilla, is an Austrian noblewoman and a female vampire created by Joseph Sheridan LeFanu in 1872 novella Carmilla. She appears in three movies by Hammer Films: The vampire lovers (1970), Lust for a vampire (1971) and Twins of evil (1971). Known as the Karnstein Trilogy, all three films were written by Tudor Gates and showed Mircalla seducing and vampirizing both male and female victims in 16th and 19th century Styria, Austria.
